INFORMATION FOR TRAVELLERS
If you require any health advice or vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. The nurse will need to know which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations or other precautions are required.
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment may be required with the practice nurse to complete the course of vaccinations. Your last appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Please note that you may be charged for some vaccinations as they may not be available as an NHS service. Please contact reception to enquire about prices.
Yellow fever vaccination is not available from this surgery – a list of yellow fever centres can be found on the NaTHNaC website (listed below).
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please print out and complete the Travel Questionnaire below before coming to see the nurse. Please bring the completed questionnaire with you to your appointment.
Travel Questionnaire
Before you travel it is advisable to check the current Foreign & Commonwealth Office information and security advice regarding your country of destination.

There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
Travelling in Europe
If you are travelling to Europe a very useful booklet has been published with advice and guidance to help you get the most out of your holiday. To visit please click:- http://ec.europa.eu/publications/booklets/eu_glance/86/en.pdf (this is a large document and may take a minute or two to view)
Remember:
- Take out adequate travel insurance including cover for any possible activities.
- A European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) entitles you to free or reduced rate medical care in most EU countries. You can apply for one free of charge online (www.ehic.org.uk), or
by phone 0845 606 2030 - A dental check-up before you travel may prevent problems while you are away.
- Ensure you have enough of your current medication to see you through your trip. This may include contraceptives, inhalers etc.
- Pack a first aid kit (a sterile kit of emergency equipment may be a good idea if you are going somewhere remote).
